Join Price Chopper in the Freihofer’s Run for Women!

This year marks the Freihofer’s 34th Run for Women and our Marketing team is very excited to participate! Follow our journey as we blog about our experience of preparing for our first 5K over the next 10 weeks!  Price Chopper has been a long time sponsor of the Run and we can’t think of a better way to become more involved!

For the second year, Freihofer’s Run for Women is offering participants a chance to join a 10 week Training Challenge prior to the race to fully prepare participants to cross the finish line.  The challenge uses the popular “Couch to 5K” Training program to help both beginners and intermediate runners improve their results. You can join one of the three teams that practice at different times on Mondays, with local celebrity leaders: Kelly Lynch (AM 810 & 103-1FM WHY), Ann Hughes (Fox 23), and Jennifer Gish (Times Union).  As a team member, you practice once a week on Mondays with your team leader, once individually, and once on Saturday mornings with all of the women participating in the challenge.  Some brave members of our marketing team will be joining the Monday night team, training from 6:30-7:30p.m. at the Crossings of Colonie with Ann Hughes.  We’d love to see you there!  For more information on the program and how to register, click here!

There will also be an info session on the training program on March 20th from 5:30-6:30 p.mat the Community Media Lab, 501 Broadway, Troy.  This session, entitled “10 Weeks to Your Best Freihofer’s Time,” will address how to get started in a running program and remain injury free, as well as provide helpful tips to those with previous running experience!  If you can’t make the commitment to join the Training Challenge but would still like to train for the 5K on June 2nd, you can join the Virtual Freihofer’s Training Challenge!  This is a free program where you can receive the day’s workouts for 10 weeks as you prepare for the Freihofer’s run in June!  For more information on the Freihofer’s Community Walk, Kids’ Run and the Junior 3K, visit http://www.freihofersrun.com/.

We encourage our Price Chopper teammates and customers to join with us as we start this journey!  Meet our team:

Megan Finin
Jr. Marketing Program Coordinator

I’m so excited to be training for and running my first 5K with my friends and coworkers at Price Chopper!  The last time I was at the Freihofer’s Run for Women was when I was 8 years old.  I ran in the Kids’ Run and remember having such a great day in downtown Albany.  With little running experience, I am eager to start the “Couch to 5K” training program.   It will definitely be a journey!

Liz Lisuzzo
Consumer Insights Specialist

I have wanted to get back into running for years, and I can’t think of a better opportunity!  In high school, I loved running cross-country and indoor/outdoor track, but stopped when I began college and quickly got out of shape!  I am looking forward to meeting new friends in the community and getting involved in a great event!  If you follow Price Chopper on Twitter (@PriceChopper), you’ve probably talked to me!  Keep an eye out for Twitter updates on the team throughout our journey, and join in the conversation using #pcfrfw!

Tara Mahnk
Senior Marketing Program Coordinator

This will be my first time running a 5K, and I couldn’t be more ecstatic about running it with Megan and Liz! Working out is a great stress reliever for me, but running is something I’ve never been able to get into.  Having the support of these ladies and all the women I have yet to meet will keep me motivated as we progress through this journey.  I hope that you’ll come out on June 2nd to support all the fabulous women taking part in this run and cheer us on to the finish line!
