Go Nuts for Walnuts!
Ellie Wilson, MS, RDN Senior Nutritionist
When it comes to eating well, we want it all – great taste, indulgence and good nutrition. The good news is, walnuts check all three boxes! Check out these fun facts and easy ideas for enjoying more.
Walnuts are delicious and versatile – they can be a snack on their own, or add healthful indulgence to breakfast, lunch, dinner and every eating occasion in-between! I love adding them to oatmeal and Greek yogurt parfaits, as well as a topping on salads and desserts. At home, we keep a bag of PICS walnuts in the pantry for a quick and easy snack.
Good to know:
- Walnuts have a unique nutrient profile – they are the only nut that is an excellent source of essential ALA omega-3 fatty acids, with 2.5 grams per ounce (about ¼ cup).
- Walnuts are best stored in the refrigerator or the freezer.
- Walnuts pair beautifully with a range of foods to create delicious pairings and recipes. Check out these California walnuts heart-health inspired recipe videos and American Heart Association Heart-Check certified recipes to get started today! https://walnuts.org/american-heart-month/
Enjoy walnuts whenever you want to add flavor and benefits to your day!
